More babies.....The Lucky 'F's

August 2, 2010
I was contacted by a lady last week after 9 baby syrians had been dumped on her doorstep. She kept one and found a home for another and the rest came to us. The poor little things had been kept all together. We estimated their ages at 8wks but they were very thin. All the boys had some scabs from fighting but the girls seem healthy apart from being underweight. We have to keep an eye on the girls incase any are pregnant.  After saying all this I must tell you how wonderful they are. They are so friendly. They come to you when you call them and love being handled. We have named them 'the Fs' as all their names begin with 'F' and mean lucky. the girls are Fayola, Felka, Fukuko and the boys are Felix, Faustino, Fella (Fela is a girls name which means lucky so we made it more manly!) and Feirouz.
These gorgeous pups will be ready for rehoming very soon.

Also I'd like to thank Sam for donating 6 cages and driving all the way from Essex to drop them off. They may be needed if any of the 'F's are pregnant!

Babies, babies and Alberto

July 25, 2010
It's been a while since I last posted a blog. Things here at HSHHR have been very busy. We took in a mum and 5 pups which we named Tallulah, Mac, Flack, Grissom, Bluebell and Meadow. Flack found a new home where I'm sure he's going to be well looked after. The others are all ready for re-homing with the exception of Grissom who will stay with us for a while.
We also took in another 4 pups from another rescue who had a female which gave birth to 15 pups. As they are syrians and need to live alo...

Welcome Tilney and Denbury

June 15, 2010
Whilst Yvette was looking round a well known pet store she came across the hamsters up for adoption. After finding out two Dwarf hamsters had been there for over a month she decided to bring them home. Tilney is a lovely female winter white and Denbury is a typical russian. Denbury is a very sweet and friendly girl whilst Tilney just needs to learn to trust us. Photos to follow

Purdy's up to mischief and Amber goes to her new home

June 6, 2010
I've been in Somerset for a week having a fantastic time while my wonderful neighbours looked after the hamsters. I came home, went to check my emails....no internet. After further investigation Neal finds the internet cable chewed up and in two pieces. When I see my neighbours they tell me Purdy escaped. Thank goodness the door to the hamster room was closed as she was found at the bottom of a bookcase after scracthing and making a little squeek. Why does it always happen when your away!?

Farewell our darling Aubrey

May 20, 2010
I posted this on a hamster forum I use and thought I'd use it in my blog to save the heartache of re-typing it...
Aubrey was handed into a friends pet shop with a litter of 20 pups 3 years ago. She was such a lovely, sweet natured girl. My friend asked me to have her as she wanted her to live with someone she knew would take good care of her. Well, I did and Aubrey was a joy to have. So sweet natured and friendly. She was the first hamster I'd had in years. It was Aubrey who made me fall in lo...

Welcome Sirocca

May 15, 2010
Sirocca came to us 2 days ago. She's a lovely brown and white banded syrian. She is very friendly and you can see she has been very well cared for. Her owners gave her to us because they were travelling with work and had no one to look after her.

New Girl Arrives

May 11, 2010

We welcomed a beautiful 8 week old syrian today. She's a little live wire but so cute.
She may end up on our re-homing page as I'm sure someone out their could offer her a great home.
This is Amber our new 8 week old girl.
Belladonna is turning into a primadonna! Don't know what's got into her but she's found her teeth! Looks like we will be doing some 'taming training' on this one. We still love her though :)

Well,we welcomed a new little robo called Tico today. He's a sweet little thing and is settling in nicely.
